Captain de Falbe was descended from an impressive line of public servants.
From about 1613 - 1692, Johan de Falbe – renowned Juris consultus from Lebst in Anhalt.
Joaquim Falbe – 166 – 1734 Postmester (Mayor) in the service of the government of Poland and the Electorate of Saxony.
Christian Ludvig Falbe 1699 – 1760. Principal Clerk in the office of the Paymaster General in Copenhagen.
Christian appears to be the grandfather of Charles (Carl) de Falbe. Charles’ brother, Christian, was a diplomat in Vienna and later the Danish Consul in London. Their father was also a diplomat, in Rome, Tunis and other places.
The Monterosi in his name is because he was born in a village of that name, whilst his parents were en route to Rome.
Emmeline owned a house in Rutland Gate (London) and apparently sometimes lived in St Leonards because the Leslie’s (her first husband’s family) sometimes liked to visit. She had sufficient income that Charles did not need to work.
Emmeline and Charles’ older son Christian is described as a roué, and died drunk and childless, three years after his mother. The younger son married a grand-daughter of William Leslie (brother of Emmeline’s first husband.)
In an odd twist (or maybe not) George Leslie had at least two brothers, Patrick and Walter, Walter went exploring with Ernest Dalrymple, elder brother of George Augustus.
A niece of the Leslie brothers married a relative of Lieut.Col the Hon Gilbert Elliot AW G31
Leslie, Dalrymple and Elliott were all part of Scottish aristocracy.
