Lieut.Col the Hon Gilbert Elliot AW G31

He was the son of the 2nd Earl of Minto

He married Katherine, daughter of A T Gilbert, Bishop of Chichester.

(His grandmother was Mary Robertson so possibly some local connection)


Bt.-Major, 12th December, 1854; Major, h. p., Unatt., 31st August, 1857 ; reaptd. to B. B., 4th September, 1857 ;

Bt.-Lt.-Colonel, 3rd April, 1862; Lt.-Colonel, h. p., Unatt., 21st October, 1862 ; aptd. to 15th Depot Batt., 1st March,

1864 ; placed on h. p. on reduction of same, 1st April, 1865 ;

retired 16th May, 1865.

Widow of Hon Gilbert Elliot and daughter of A T Gilbert Bishop of Chichester

In 1879 she married Hugh Culling Eardley Childers  [in Oxford DNB, which see, Available online via East Sussex Libraries)  She died in June 1895.  Childers died in London on 29 January 1896.


From 17 August 1858, her married name became Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound.  From 12 April 1879, her married name became Childers.
