Fanny and Walter Field
This grave situated, at AO H11, is marked by very ornate, polished pink granite headstone, flanked by polished grey granite pillars and carved with ivy.
It commemorates Fanny, the wife of Walter Field, who died in October 1892 at the age of 37. Her husband. who was buried here in September 1935 at the age of 82 was ‘for 45 years superintendent of this cemetery.’
A quick scan of censuses suggests that he was born in Ore (or possibly Fairlight) in 1855, probably married Fanny in 1879, and at the age of 26, in the 1881 census, they are recorded as living at 191 St George's Rd, Hastings and he is the Borough Surveyor's assistant.
