Glenister Family in WW1

William Montague Glenister,  (son of Joseph George Glenister and Sara Walters Kent) was born 06 Jan 1889.  He was a Lance Corporal with the Second Battalion of the Scots Guards, and was killed in action on the 18th December 1914 in France.  He is buried at Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez.


Three Hastings born grandsons of William Glenister were killed in action during the First World War.

Vernon H Glenister was a Rifleman in the London Regiment of the Queen’s Westminster Rifles.  He was the son of Charles Lawrence and Elizabeth Glenister, of 81, Milward Rd, Hastings.  He was 26 at the time of his death in France.  There is a photo of his grave at Serre Road Cemetery No. 2 at  twgpp.org/information.php?id=3055170


 

Donald William Glenister, born 15 January in Hastings, was the son of Edward and Emma Louise Glenister.   He was a sergeant in the Royal Fusiliers and was killed in action on the 11th July 1918, aged 23.  He is buried at Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille, situated on the northern outskirts of Boulogne.
