By 1917 John George Hickman’s son, also John, was living at Hole Farm. He had married Louisa Hutchings in 1896. They had three sons and five daughters.
In the 1901 census they are registered in all Saints, John is a Cattle Salesman, Louisa, his wife (born in Lee, Kent) and the children, Daisy, aged 3, John George, (Jack) aged 2, Isabel,1, and Nellie, under a year.
In 1911 they are in Linton Road and the children are Jobes (Isabel?) aged 10, Frank, 8, Mabel Joyce,7, Charlie 4, Sybil 2.
Jack was boarding at school in Hawkhurst and Nellie in Eastbourne
Their eldest son, John George, (Jack) was born in 1898 and was killed in the Battle of Passchendaele Ridge in 1917 aged 19. He is remembered on the grave of his sister Isabel [Isobel on gravestone] Gertrude, born in 1899,who died in Hendon in 1930. It is on Isabel’s memorial, that we find remembered her brother ‘Jack’

A charming personality and worker for charity, Mrs Louisa (Daisy) Hickman, wife of Mr John Hickman, wife of John Hickman of Hole Farm, died on Saturday at the age of 72.

He had been ill for six weeks. One of the family of 11, four sons and seven daughters of Mr. John George Hickman, he had been a farmer during the whole of his working life and was well known at markets throughout the South of England .
