Holman, Joseph Cecil continued

He died on 1st June 1921, aged 21, when he was murdered while serving in Ireland.

A report states that Joseph Cecil Holman, of 16 Warrior Square, was shot dead at Kilworth, County Cork.  Constable Holman was hit in the chest, face and throat.  He attempted to draw his revolver which fell to the ground.  His girlfriend with whom he was walking received three minor wounds during the attack.

A subsequent search of the area found evidence of 2 or 3 persons having occupied the area of the ambush for some time. (Taken from an Irish Genealogy website).

Joseph’s body was returned to Hastings and he is buried in the cemetery in plot GA E4 along with his sister Beatrice and brother Malcolm. His funeral took place on Tuesday 7th June 1921 and was reported in The Hastings and St Leonards Observer on Saturday 11th June.      _____________________________
