The Mystery of JB I Burials

It is possible that the use of plot JB I (what now constitutes just one row of plot JB) was a wartime expedient for a short period, December 1915 to early March 1916, a place for bodies of service personnel and civilians to be temporarily buried.  Before and after this date there were burials in JB I in the normal range of about 1 – 35

Steven Phillips died in 9th December 1915 was buried in JB I35; it was said in the Observer that it was fitting that he should be buried in the “new part” of the cemetery.  

The highest JB I number found so far is JB I259

Another mystery is Stephen J Bumstead, follow the link (his name) to see photos of his military funeral.  The puzzle is that the grave does not look like his CWG stone at LC M28.
