In 1863 Captain J. P. Mackinnon is secretary of the Royal Victoria Yacht. Club, Ryde, Isle of Wight, a post he was still holding in 1871.

In 1888 Captain John Pryce Mackinnon was boarding at 51 Gensing Road. On a Thursday he went to Boulogne, returning on the Saturday in the evening.
Next morning the landlord found him dead. He had apparently felt unwell the previous evening and been driven to a chemist.
